According to Super Lawyers in their article “Understanding Duty to Retreat vs. Stand Your Ground in New York,” these are two types of law that can cause some confusion to the average American and it is important to understand the differences between them.
“New York adopted ‘duty to retreat’ in 1968. The law states that use of deadly force cannot be used if a person can retreat with ‘complete personal safety to oneself or other,’” Super Lawyers said.
